Denis Ryan

Growing up around The Blasket Sound in West Kerry gave me a profound respect for the power of the ocean and how it shaped and eroded my community and the landscape around me through its ever-changing process of giving and taking away. The ocean to me is a place of serene beauty, but also a place of deep loss and sadness.   

I use photography to try and reflect that contrast, as my images transition from the calm warmth of a setting sun to the dark moodiness that the ocean holds in equal measures.

Each photograph is an individual connection with the sea and landscape.
