The club has monthly competitions with the top images being selected by the club members Competition entry The competition secretary will give out entry forms on the competition night. All entries for club competitions must be recorded on a competition entry form and handed to the club competition secretary before the competition starts. Only fully paid up members of the Limerick Camera Club may enter club competitions. Only members who are present at the monthly competitions may enter those competitions. Competition entries, whether print or slide, must be original photographs, and must be the entrant’s own work. Photographs of other people’s artwork or of other people’s photographs are not eligible. Competition Points System The club members decide the winners of the monthly competitions. Members are allocated a scoring card on which they will mark their first, second and third preference votes. This is done for each competition category. Only those who have entered an image on the night can vote. Members who have entered any category may vote on all categories during that night. If you have entered an image, you must vote. Members cannot vote for their own images. Any member found to have voted for their own image(s) will be disqualified from entering club competitions for the remainder of the year and their points deleted. Images shall receive points as follows: 1st preference vote will receive 3 points. 2nd preference vote will receive 2 points. 3rd preference vote will receive 1 point The competition secretary and another member, will calculate the number of points received per entry. In the event of the absence of the competition secretary any other member of the club may deputize. Once calculated, those with the top three scores per category will be announced on the night. |

Explanation of Club Competitions Monthly competitions There are two Sectioins - Beginners and Open in each section there are three categories
Only one entry per category will be accepted on the night. The Competition alternates each month between Colour and Black and White images The committee may take the decision to promote to the next level a beginner who has demonstrated a standard of photography deemed to be higher than that of the beginner category.Photographer of the year award This award is presented to the member who has received the most points from the monthly competitions, as specified above. This may be shared in the event of an equal points tie. A majority decision of the committee is final. Limerick Cup (Print) This is an annual award. The requirements for the competition are that the print image (B&W or colour) must depict an image of Limerick city and environs. The theme of Limerick must be clearly visible in the image. A majority decision of the committee on entrant adherence to criteria is final. West of Ireland (Slide) This is an annual award. The requirements for the competition are that the slide image must depict an image of the West of Ireland. The theme of the West of Ireland must be clearly visible. A majority decision of the committee on entrant adherence to criteria is final. |

Challenge Cup This is an annual award. The winner will be selected on the basis of the most points achieved in the monthly Challenge competitions. Newcomers cup This is an annual award, presented to club members who have joined in the current year. The winner is decided on the total amount of points received from the monthly competitions. This may be shared in the event of an equal points tie. A majority decision of the committee is final. |

Colour Print Cup This is an annual award. The first, second and third place winners of each monthly Colour print competition (both beginners and open) may enter an end of year competition. All members may enter one additional image in this competition. Black and White Print Cup This is an annual award. The first, second and third place winners of each monthly Black & White print competition (both beginners and open) may enter an end of year competition. All members may enter one additional image in this competition. Five Print Panel Competition This is an annual award. Members enter a panel of five prints which can be either B&W or Colour. Each print must inter-link with each other on the same theme/subject. A majority decision of the committee on entrant adherence to criteria is final. Additional competitions, either with or without themes, may be held during the year at the discretion of the committee. Competition Judging Annual Competitions The Open Slide Cup, Colour Print Cup and Black and White Print Cup shall be judged by an external judge or judges (Not members of the Limerick Camera Club). These judges may be members from other clubs affiliated to the IPF, or may be professional photographers. The Panel Competition, West of Ireland Trophy and Limerick Cup shall be judged by club members. Only those members who have entered images in each of these competitions may vote on them. Presentation of images The maximum acceptable print sizes for monthly or annual competitions are either A4 (210 mm x 297 mm) or 12 inches x 8 inches. Prints should be mounted on a single card mount not exceeding 3″ wider on all sides of the print. i.e. no more than six inches longer and six inches wider than an A4 print. Smaller sizes may be entered. Entries may be directly mounted on card, or behind a mat mount. Mount colours to be left up to individuals. Should entries be mounted directly on foam board the image cannot exceed A4 size, inclusive of a printed frame should the photographer wish to apply such method. The foam board mount should be no larger than 3 inches wider on both sides than the A4 print. Additional awards The committee may, as it deems necessary, make special awards to recognize the achievements of club members who have shown exceptional creativity, originality, improvement, or dedication during the year. Rule changes The Committee may amend competition rules from time to time, as required, in consultation with the members of the club. Members may also propose changes to the competition rules at the AGM or at a specially convened EGM during the year. With the exception of an AGM or EGM the majority committee decision is final in all matters. Interested parties in disagreement with committee decisions must relate this in writing to the committee and raise it as convenient at a regular meeting. The matter may then be dealt with formally by the committee, or the other interested party may insist on a hearing at the next AGM or EGM. EGM will be granted if a simple majority of members present on the night vote for it or if the committee chairman or designate decide it is in the best interest of the club to hold such a meeting. |
